Chuck Thornton

Master luthier Chuck Thornton’s passion for working with wood began under the influence of his father as a youth in Maine.  His journey would take him through Boston, where he studied at the Berklee College Of Music, then onward to Florida and eventually returning to Maine where he began his guitar building career.

He worked with master luthier Dana Bourgeois for several years and then with violinmaker Jon Cooper where for four years he learned the art of violin design and construction.  His apprenticeship with Jon would take Chuck’s luthier skills to the next level, which was building guitars.  As a player he understands the relationship of the materials he must work with to achieve the ultimate sound.  His guitars and basses are revered by players and collectors worldwide.

He has taken all he has learned about tone woods and electronics to create an entirely unique collection of solid-body guitars he named The Classic Hot Rod Series which are inspired by classic cars of the ’50s along with traditional designs that he’s taken to a new level.

He has personally and passionately crafted more than 500 guitars in the past 27 years.  He is fulfilling his dream of creating custom made heirloom quality instruments for buyers who seek that rare balance between exquisite beauty, engineering excellence and incredible tone.
